Our Toy Spotlight this week shines on the original red Joe ninja – Jinx!
She’s had plenty of toy versions over the years, but perhaps her most iconic is the red outfit she wears in the SDCC exclusive modern version (there is another version of her sporting a white outfit but I’m more partial towards the uniforms the characters wore in the cartoons).
She debuted in the 1987 GI Joe Animated Movie as part of the new batch of recruits to be trained by Beach Head (you’d think the Joes would value her more as a ninja as compared to a basketball player and a dude wearing a Hawaiian shirt!).
She played a pivotal role in the film, being positioned as the main nemesis of Cobra La’s Pythona (as well as the love interest of the film’s main protagonist – Falcon).
The SDCC figure version is pretty straightforward. As a ninja, she gets a lot of articulation in the hands and legs. She is able to hold different dynamic and athletic poses, which is further complemented by the close-combat accessories included.
Action figures really have come a long way since the 80’s and 90’s, and the modern version of Jinx certainly shows the improvement. This is certainly a MUST-HAVE for every Joe Collector who has a special nostalgic place in their hearts for the Animated Movie.
