Cyclops Was Definitely Right

Absolutely worth the wait.

Excellent. Awesome. Marvelous. Absolutely Magnificent. I could run out of adjectives to describe this figure and somehow it still wouldn’t be enough. I mean honestly, what hasn’t been said about this version of Cyclops? We’ve waited a LOOOOOOOONG time for this 90’s Jim Lee inspired figure (nope, sorry I’m not gonna count the straw-thin stand-in that was released by Toybiz years ago LOL).

Jim Lee is an evolutionary artist who completely changed the comic industry during his 90s run with the X-Men. This resurgence in mutants, along with the animated cartoon series, captured the hearts and imagination of millions of children worldwide. Fast-forward decades later and the children grew up to be collectors of Marvel Legends figures hungry for toys that reminded them of their youth.

The figure itself is masterfully done. The proportions are just right and the articulation is just what you would expect for a mutant who spends most of his time sniping enemies from afar (as compared to brawlers like Wolverine). The blue and gold color scheme screams 90s (don’t even get me started on the abundance of pouches) – but you know what? I absolutely love it. With the new figure height scale, Cyclops towers over the current Wolverine figure (as he should), but falls short next to the Colossus figure (as he should also).

The X-Men leader is an excellent addition to your mutant collection. Having him stand next to the 90s versions of Rogue, Jean Grey, and the like is an absolute sight to behold. If you think about it, the figure is simple in its design and articulation, but the Jim Lee fanboy in me easily sees this as one (if not the best) Marvel Legends figures of the year. Well worth the wait.

TOY ASYLUM’S RATING (OUT OF 5 STARS)

OVERALL DESIGN - 4.0 OUT OF 5 STARS

- Blue and gold color scheme? Check. Belt and harness pouches? Check. Nostalgic 90s vibe? A gigantic check.

PLAYABILITY - 3.5 OUT OF 5 STARS

- Articulation is just right for the Field General of the X-Men. The ankle joints allow you to pull off a number of iconic Cyclops poses.

DURABILITY - 4.0 OUT OF 5 STARS

- This is a solid Marvel Legends figure. My only gripe would be the thigh and knee straps which ALWAYS seem to slide. Not a big concern but annoying nonetheless.

RARITY - 4.0 OUT OF 5 STARS

- Despite the release of the 3 Pack set (Cyclops, Jean Grey, Wolverine), this first version is still a bit hard to find – I guess most collectors prefer their Cyclops figure without a bomber jacket. If you find one for a good price, don’t hesitate in buying it.

*Not all of the pics are mine so a BIG thanks to the owners (and congratulations for a wonderful collection!).
