Maggot Madness

The Cobra Hammerhead. The Cobra Parasite. The Cobra Asp. What is it with Cobra and naming their vehicles after animals or insects? Today we have much of the same, as we will be taking a look at the Cobra Maggot. The three in one vehicle functions as a mobile long range gun emplacement, a high speed attack unit, and a battlefield control pod.

The combined vehicle itself is nice to look at – the light blue and black color scheme looks like something Cobra would use in their army (with a few yellow spots here and there). Imagine a platoon of these running up the field and taking their positions... Joe troopers would be running for the hills. Upon separation, the front cab detaches to become a high speed attack sentry. The tracks/wheels are so huge that the traction gained from the surface terrain allow it to zoom to great speeds.

The second part of the vehicle elevates to become a long range artillery cannon. The main gun can raise up to different angles which give it a wide target range. There is room for two soldiers to comfortably man the gun emplacement. The last portion of the vehicle is a mobile field control center with enough room for the officer to monitor and go over the controls. While there is enough detail in this pod to cater to your imagination, a bit more color could have been used to help these stand out some more.

The Cobra Maggot is operated by the aptly named Cobra Worms (I see what you did there Hasbro!). These brown specialists sport great looking removable helmets (as well as headset mics that are almost always the first to go missing). As vintage vehicle and driver sets go, these two really do look great together.

TOY ASYLUM’S RATING (OUT OF 5 STARS)

OVERALL DESIGN - 3.5 OUT OF 5 STARS

- The vintage vehicle looks menacing from afar and up close. The long gun emplacement really adds to the persona of the vehicle.

PLAYABILITY - 4.0 OUT OF 5 STARS

- What’s not to love in a three-piece vehicle? Lots of ways to play with the Cobra Maggot – imagine if you had more than one =)

DURABILITY - 3.5 OUT OF 5 STARS

- While the main body of the vehicle is built to withstand the test of time, the smaller parts are sure to suffer. The small radar and the yellow pegs on the artillery set need a bit more care especially when played with by kids.

RARITY - 3.5 OUT OF 5 STARS

- Being a vintage vehicle means it’s a bit difficult to look for a Cobra Maggot – especially one that’s in great condition. It’s even more difficult to find one that comes with the driver – finding one with the headset mic is another story.

*Not all of the pics are mine so a BIG thanks to the owners (and congratulations for a wonderful collection!).
